I'm no stylist - but I hope these tips will help you for planning your outfits for your sessions!

Comfort is key. Take into consideration the season, your personal style & the footwear (or lack of!) that suits your location. You may have to sit, stand, crouch, sit and even lie down at sessions so really short dresses, shorts or clothing that doesn’t allow movement aren’t ideal.

Matching is not essential at all but a palette or a theme can be helpful.

I'm a visual person so I find taking inspiration from what other family's have chosen to be the most helpful!

Below are some of my favourites of the last few years ✨

Here are some things I wouldn't recommend.

Shirts with slogans, logos, banners & abstract writing.

This can be quite distracting from the more important features in the image.

Really bright colours for everyone

Colours can throw reflections on to skin - for example a red shirt on mum can make the child they are holding look slightly sunburnt. Muted tones are often the best, however I have captured some family's where a bold pattern has been the feature for one or two family members.

Everyone wearing identical matching outfits

If you love the white t-shirt and jeans look - please go right ahead! Personally, mixed tones can add to the

'3D' effect in images so not everything looks as flat.

Bold shoes or hats

Really can distract from the people being photographed and draw people’s eyes to the bottom/top of the photos first and not to faces and emotions. If an Akubra is part of your personality though - please don't hesitate to bring it along, I might just get you to tip it back off your face a bit to let the light in.

Most importantly, lean into your family's personal style.

Let your children be part of the process in choosing their outfits if it helps!

I can't wait to see what you decide is best :)
